Blue Light Glasses Guide

What blue light glasses are

Blue light glasses are non-prescription glasses with a coated lens that filters out part of the high-energy blue light, roughly 400 to 455 nm, that phones, laptops and monitors give off. Less of that light reaches your eyes, so there is less glare and less of the tired, dry feeling you get after a long session in front of a screen. They are not corrective eyewear: anyone who spends time on a screen can wear them straight out of the box.

What they are for

Screens are close, bright and on for hours. The lens takes the edge off that: contrast is a little warmer and softer, and your eyes do not have to work as hard to keep focus. Wear them at your desk, while gaming or scrolling in the evening, whenever the screen is on.

The Billie Blue Light Glasses Clear and Gray are the same glasses in two frame colours. The frame is acetate in a universal medium size with just enough flex in the temples to sit on most faces without pinching.

Three layers, one lens

  1. Anti-scratch shield. Protects the lens surface from scratches, dust and daily wear.
  2. Blue light filter. Reduces the blue light that causes glare and eye strain.
  3. Clarity and comfort layer. Adds contrast and warmth for a more natural, relaxed view.

Which lens to pick

Each pair comes with a lens strength. The stronger the filter, the warmer the tint.

  • Light Green, 42% filter. Barely tinted. The all-day lens for the office, video calls and daytime work where you still want true colours.
  • Yellow, 84% filter. A visible warm tint. For evening sessions, gaming and late scrolling.
  • Orange, 98% filter. Blocks nearly all blue light. The lens for the last hours before bed or long night shifts. Colours shift noticeably warm, so this is not the one for design work.

Not sure? Light Green is the safe first pair. Most people who wear them all day pick that one and add a Yellow pair for the evening later.

Wearing and looking after them

  • Put them on before you start, not when your eyes already feel tired. The filter works while you look at the screen.
  • Clean the lenses with the soft cloth or with lukewarm water and a drop of dish soap, then dry with a soft cloth. No paper towels or the corner of your shirt: those scratch the coating.
  • Store them in the case when you are not wearing them and keep them out of a hot car.

See both frames on the blue light glasses page.

Common questions

Do they work if I already wear contact lenses?

Yes. They sit over your eyes like any pair of glasses and do not interfere with contacts.

Can I wear them outside?

You can, but they are not sunglasses. The lenses filter blue light, not UV or brightness. For sun protection, pick a pair from the sunglasses collection.

Are the lenses in prescription strength?

No. These are non-prescription glasses with plain lenses and a blue light coating.

Will the coating wear off?

The anti-scratch shield is there to protect it. Treat them like any pair of glasses: soft cloth, case when not in use, and they will last.

How do blue light glasses work?

The lenses have a coating that filters out a portion of high-energy blue light (roughly 400–455nm) emitted by phones, laptops and monitors. This reduces glare and the visual fatigue your eyes experience after long screen sessions.

Will they fit my face?

The frame is designed in a universal medium size that sits comfortably on most faces. The acetate construction has just enough flex so the temples adapt to your head without pinching.

Can I use them without a prescription?

Yes. These are non-prescription blue light glasses — anyone who spends time in front of a screen can wear them straight out of the box. They're not corrective eyewear.
