Rope Chain Guide
What a rope chain is
A rope chain is made from small links set in pairs and twisted around a central axis, so the finished chain spirals rather than running flat. That spiral is the whole point. Where a flat chain gives you one surface that lights up when it faces you, a rope has facets running around it at every angle, so it flickers as you move instead of reflecting in one sheet.
It is also the reason a rope chain reads as textured from a distance while still being thin. You are seeing the twist, not the width.
How it wears at 3 mm
At 3 mm the Billie Rope Chain 3MM is a daily chain rather than a statement one. It sits close to the neck, disappears under a collar, and does not compete with anything else you have on. That makes it the one to reach for when you want jewellery to be present rather than noticed, and it is the natural base layer if you stack: a rope underneath and something heavier over it reads as deliberate, where two heavy chains together usually does not.
Length
45 cm with a 5 cm extension, so it adjusts anywhere between 45 and 50 cm. At 45 cm it sits at the base of the neck, high enough to show above a crew neck. Let it out towards 50 cm and it drops to the collarbone, which is where you want it if you are layering it under a longer piece. Because the extension is built in, you do not have to commit to one of those before ordering.
What it is made of
Premium stainless steel, free from lead, cadmium and nickel, so it will not irritate or discolour your skin however long you keep it on. The silver version is that steel polished as it comes, not a plating over something else. The gold version is the same steel with real 18K gold plating, not a thin wash that turns colour after a month.
It is fully waterproof. Shower, swim, sweat, rain, gym. It will not fade or tarnish, and there is no upkeep beyond a wipe with a soft cloth if you want it sharper. Every Billie piece carries a lifetime warranty: if it breaks, fades or arrives damaged, we repair or replace it at no cost.
Looking after it
Almost nothing is required. If it stops catching light the way it did, that is a film of soap or skin oil rather than wear: rinse under warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Keep it away from bleach and harsh cleaners, and store it lying flat rather than tangled with other chains so the links are not dragged against each other.
Chain, bracelet, or both
The Billie Rope Bracelet 3MM is the same twist at the same 3 mm width, so the two read as a set worn together without either looking incomplete on its own. Read the rope bracelet guide for how it sits on the wrist.
