Spring Chain Guide
What a spring chain is
A spring chain is built from links coiled into a continuous rounded form, so the surface runs as one smooth tube rather than as a series of separate joints you can pick out with your eye. It has no sharp edges anywhere along it, which is what makes it read as heavy and soft at the same time.
The effect is different from a cuban or a rope. A rope flickers because of its twist and a cuban flashes off flat faces; a spring chain has one continuous highlight running along the length of it, which moves as you do.
How it wears at 7 mm
At 7 mm the Billie Spring Chain 7MM is wide enough to carry a plain outfit on its own, but because the shape is rounded rather than angular it does not shout the way a flat chain of the same width would. Worn alone over a plain t shirt it is the single thing you see. Worn under an open shirt it holds a look together without taking it over.
Length
45 cm with a 5 cm extension, so it adjusts between 45 and 50 cm. At 45 cm it sits at the base of the neck where the full width of the chain is visible above a collar, which is usually where you want a chain of this weight. Towards 50 cm it drops onto the chest and reads calmer.
What it is made of
Premium stainless steel with real 18K gold plating, free from lead, cadmium and nickel. Not a thin gold wash over a soft base, which is what turns colour after a few weeks of wear, and it will not irritate or discolour your skin.
It is fully waterproof. Shower, swim, sweat, rain, gym. It will not fade or tarnish, and there is no upkeep beyond a wipe with a soft cloth if you want it sharper. Every Billie piece carries a lifetime warranty: if it breaks, fades or arrives damaged, we repair or replace it at no cost.
Looking after it
Almost nothing is required. If it stops catching light the way it did, that is a film of soap or skin oil rather than wear: rinse under warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Keep it away from bleach and harsh cleaners, and store it lying flat rather than tangled with other chains so the links are not dragged against each other.
Chain, bracelet, or both
The Billie Spring Bracelet 7MM is the same coiled link at the wrist, so the pair reads as a set. Read the spring bracelet guide for how it fits.
